CEO and Ex-Officio Board Member
Michael R. Gordon
Michael R. Gordon brings five decades of expertise in project management systems across both profit and non-profit sectors. His extensive career spans work with some of the world’s largest organizations in industries such as construction, nuclear power, telecommunications, mining, and micro-electronics. However, Mike finds his greatest fulfillment in the non-profit initiatives he and his family helped launch with local partners in northern Pakistan. As CEO of Shining Light International, Mike is dedicated to demonstrating the love of Christ through innovative and effective programs that bring hope, help, and transformation to communities in need. For over 20 years, his leadership has supported the growth and impact of Shining Light’s work in Pakistan, empowering lives through education, vocational training, and community development. Outside of his professional work, Mike enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, biking, and spending quality time with his seven grandchildren.

Charles (Chuck) Odegaard
Chuck Odegaard brings decades of experience in leadership, humanitarian work, and spiritual guidance to Shining Light International. After serving in the USAF, Chuck began his career in construction management before pursuing a degree in Theology in 1982. In 1988, he transitioned into relief and development, overseeing impactful projects across Central Asia. From 1993 to 2006, Chuck pastored his home church while remaining deeply engaged in Central Asian initiatives, eventually returning to lead Vision International. As the founding Chairman of the Board for Shining Light International, Chuck has been a cornerstone of the organization's vision and success. His hands-on involvement in Pakistan, particularly with the Gilgit Eye Hospital, exemplifies his dedication to sustainable development and empowerment. Now retired, Chuck continues to serve as a valued board member, committed to advancing Shining Light’s mission for years to come.

Gary Uber
Gary is an accomplished leader with a distinguished career spanning healthcare, entrepreneurship, and humanitarian work. He began his professional journey as a United States Navy/Marine Corps Medic and Staff Officer, serving from 1986 to 1994. Afterward, he transitioned to healthcare administration, holding the role of Administrator at Martin Memorial Health Systems. In 1997, he co-founded Family Private Care, LLC, where he serves as President, and later established Whispering Pines Ranch, LLC, and Redbone Nutrition, LLC. With extensive education that includes degrees from Hobe Sound Bible College (BA), Asbury Theological Seminary (MDIV), and the University of Kentucky (MSA), along with postgraduate work in Non-Profit Business Administration at the University of Notre Dame, [Name Placeholder] brings a wealth of expertise to his work. He has been a key part of Shining Light International since 2012, currently serving as Chair of the Board. His 20 years of experience working in Central and Southeast Asia include leading disaster relief efforts, rebuilding initiatives, and medical interventions in remote regions. Passionate about empowering unreached communities, he focuses on education for women and girls and improving access to healthcare in remote areas. Beyond his professional achievements, Gary is a devoted husband to Carmen and father to daughters Lauren and Morgan. In his free time, he enjoys his work with Whispering Pines Ranch and other ventures that reflect his commitment to community and service.

James Groves
James Groves is a dynamic entrepreneur and the president of three successful companies. With a professional background in construction, management, financials, and logistics, he has cultivated a reputation for excellence in organizing and leading teams in the private sector. James brings this expertise to his role on the Shining Light International Board, where his passion for empowering individuals aligns with the organization’s mission to create opportunities and uplift communities. His dedication to assisting those in need drives his involvement in initiatives that inspire growth and transformation. In his free time, James enjoys hiking and volunteering with local charities, reflecting his commitment to service and the well-being of others.

Tyler Gordon
Ty Gordon is a licensed general contractor based in Colorado, where he lives with his wife and four daughters. With a professional background centered on residential construction, Ty’s diverse experience also includes running a tourism company and guest house, teaching adult English classes, and working as a mountain guide. Ty lived in Pakistan for seven years and played an important role in the early days of Shining Light International, contributing to the establishment of key programs such as Shining Light Academy, remote village schools, and the women’s training center. As a founding member of SLI’s Board of Directors, Ty has been a steadfast supporter of the organization’s mission, serving on the board for much of its history. In his free time, Ty enjoys adventuring in the mountains with his family and friends, engaging in activities like climbing, camping, and snowboarding.

Bruce Smith
Bruce brings a wealth of leadership experience to Shining Light International’s board, honed through his service in the Army and his career in business operations. Over the years, he has developed expertise in analyzing complex challenges, streamlining operations, and implementing strategies to achieve organizational goals. Bruce is a skilled team builder, known for fostering collaboration and effectively utilizing the unique strengths of each team member. His critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are complemented by a deep understanding of SLI’s mission. Bruce views his role on the board as both a privilege and a calling, grounded in the belief that this work belongs to God. He remains focused on advancing the mission while trusting in God’s guidance to fulfill his responsibilities.
